The Himalayan Centre for Arts & Culture
The Himalayan Centre is a community project based in Leith. Once it opens its doors to the public it will be a vibrant, cultural hub which will be recognised for its innovative approach in bringing people together to celebrate and share different and rich cultures from around the world. The Himalayan Centre aims to foster good relations between communities, promote well-being and community resilience through the arts, cultural and other activities.

Graphic Design
The brief was to create and sustain a Brand for a new and exciting project which will act as a hub for creativity, celebrating culture and difference within the communities.

The final logo symbolises 'equality' (the figures in the middle), friendliness and acceptance (the wave position of the hand), openness and trust (the open fingers of the hand). We also chose the colours purposefully in order for the logo to come together as a whole to represent what the Himalayan Centre is to be in that creativity, community and culture.

Website Design & Development
After designing an eye catching brand identity The Himalayan Centre team asked us to design and develop a bespoke website which was going to serve as an information portal for several community-based projects run by them.

With the new website they wanted to achieve 5 main objective, which were:

  • The website should be easy to navigate.
  • The website should be accessible through all devices so that the project information can be accessed on the go.
  • The website layout should also include google maps along with videos, photographs and text.
  • The content of new website should be easy to update without prior knowledge of HTML or other programming languages.
  • The new website should be linked to their social media platforms.

With the above requirements in mind we developed an easy to navigate website using WordPress, a highly flexible content management system. The user experience was the main focus point throughout the design and development process. The end result, was a perfect combination of it being user friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

The simplicity of WordPress meant that with support and a little training from us the Himalayan Centre team were able to manage the content of the newly designed website in no time.

The new design incorporates links to the centre's social media pages and the responsive layout made it possible to access what the website had to offer using any device.
